4 dead, 9 injured in crash involving a tanker truck on Loop 202 in Phoenix

The crash happened late on the night of Wednesday, June 9, in the eastbound lanes of Loop 202 near 52nd Street. DPS said a semi hauling a tanker of milk failed to slow for congestion on the freeway and hit several vehicles. The tank detached from the rig, went over the concrete barrier, and burned on the westbound side of the freeway.

A total of eight vehicles were involved. DPS said early on that impairment did not appear to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
