PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – As fears surrounding the coronavirus pandemic continue to grow, people are stocking up on supplies. Here in the Phoenix area, we’re seeing massive lines at Costco.

Video from the Arizona’s Family News Chopper showed a line snaking around the Scottsdale Costco on Hayden Road just west of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway just before the store's 10 a.m. opening. There was a similar line at the Chandler location at Loop 101 and Loop 202 and in Tempe at Priest and Elliot roads.

Throughout the country – and all over the world – there’s been a run on items like toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Those who aren’t going to stores seem to be turning to grocery delivery services.

According to the American Red Cross the items you want to have on hand in case of a prolonged quarantine are similar to what you need to be prepared for a natural disaster.

  • Food and water for two weeks
    • 1 gallon per day per person
    • Canned soups, rice and other easy-to-prepare non-perishables
  • 30 days of prescription medications
  • First-aid kit, including items to treat symptoms of illness
  • Weather radio
  • Cell phone with charger and/or battery
  • Entertainment to alleviate boredom
