PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- One of the Phoenix Zoo's colorful residents celebrated a big birthday Saturday! Jax the mandrill (like Rafiki from "The Lion King") turned the big 1-3. It's Jax's first birthday at the Phoenix Zoo. He joined the family almost a year ago, coming to Arizona from the Dallas Zoo.
The Phoenix Zoo says Jax is known for his huge “smile” as he greets guests at the windows of his habitat.
"During the Zoo’s [COVID-19] closure, Jax was missing interaction with guests so much so that the Zoo’s staff began eating lunch on the benches near his window, swinging by on their breaks to shout, 'Hello, Jaxie!' and keeping him company as best they could," Zoo spokeswoman Linda Hardwick said.
Happy birthday from Arizona's Family, Jaxie!
