PHOENIX (3TV/CBS5) - Phoenix firefighters helped out a furry friend in need Thursday.

Firefighter Ryan Sharp and his crew rescued a large dog out of a Phoenix canal Thursday.

The dog was soaked, bedraggled and likely shaken up from his tumble into the water.

But luckily, he was not seriously hurt, and was returned safely to his family.

According to an online post from Phoenix fire: "The Phoenix Fire Dept. understands that your animals are a part of your family. "
