PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- This is Sparta! No, not the ancient Greek city we read about in mythology. This Sparta is a 3-year-old domestic shorthair looking for a family to call her own.

Sparta was feeling a little under the weather when she found herself in the care of the Arizona Humane Society. It turns out that she had ringworm, a fungal infection of the skin that causes hair loss in circular patches. Fortunately, Sparta got the treatment she needed before making her way to the adoption floor at the Campus for Compassion, where she has been getting to know the staff and volunteers a little better by the day.

Sparta can be a bit shy in the early going when meeting new people, but it typically doesn’t take her very long to warm up. Once she gets to know you a little better, she’ll even show you that you’ve earned her trust by lifting her head for chin scratches.

Visit Sparta today and see if you might be the hero she has been waiting to meet.
