PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5)-- Phoenix police are investigating after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash late Friday night.
The incident occurred just after 11 p.m. near the area of 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.
According to police, 23-year-old Timothy Romanoski was on his motorcycle, traveling at a high-rate of speed. At the same time, a 55-year-old man who was driving Honda Civic turned left in front of the motorcycle just east of the intersection, police said.
Driver of the Honda was attempting to make a left-hand turn into a private drive when Romanoski collided with the passenger side of the Honda Civic.
Police say Romanoski was thrown from his bike. Phoenix fire transported Romanoski to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say Romanoski was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Honda Civic was evaluated and it was determined he was not impaired, acocrding to Phoenix police.
Police say that speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
