PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A 38-year-old man is dead after a shooting Saturday night at a hotel in Phoenix, police say.

The shooting was reported just after 8 p.m. near 24th Avenue and Thomas Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When police arrived to the scene, they found a man, who was an estranged boyfriend of one of the women involved.

Police say the victim had a knife and threatened the women.

Then a suspect asked the women if they needed help and stepped in to intervene.

Police say that's when the two men got into a fight and the man who had been threatening the women was then shot by the other man.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

The suspect then fled the scene and has not been identified, police said.

At this time, police are trying to find the suspect so they can speak with him about the incident.

Anyone with any information are urged to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141 or if they wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
