PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - The Phoenix Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at a Premier Inn hotel near Interstate 17 and Thunderbird Road Saturday afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m., Phoenix police officers found a man who was shot. He was transported to the hospital where he later died. 

The man was identified as 40-year-old, Aaron M. Townsend.

According to Phoenix police, Townsend entered the hotel room and demanded money from two male victims.

Police say the victims did not comply and Townsend stood just outside of the open door.

When Townsend pointed his gun at an unknown person as well, one of the victims inside the room. That's when another armed man shot Townsend.

Townsend was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the victim cooperated with investigators at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
