PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A teenage boy has died after being hit by a driver in Phoenix.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. at Central and Southern avenues.
Phoenix police said the 15-year-old pedestrian was not using a crosswalk. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Keshawn Hubanks has been identified as the boy killed, per his mother.
Hubanks' mother said her son was walking to a city bus stop to get to his school, Valley Lutheran High School, when he was hit by the vehicle.
Police said the driver was heading east in the left and moved into the center lane to get ready for a left turn at Central Avenue. Keshawn was stopped in the center lane and that's when he was hit.
The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and is cooperating with officers. At this time, there are no signs of impairment. Speed was not a factor.
Keshawn is one of seven children.
Extra grief counselors were Valley Lutheran High School on Monday. Some students went home. The principal said there are about 195 kids total at the school, with 60 of them in Keshawn's freshman class.
The private high school is about 9 miles north of where the family lives. Keshawn's mother said it was important to her to have him go to a Christian school to learn about God.
The family is planning a vigil and memorial at the scene around 7 p.m.
