PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - As many are gearing up to host family this Thanksgiving, a local restaurant is getting ready for their busiest day of the year.
My Mother's Restaurant, near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road, says they have around 1,000 takeout orders to fulfill, and their dining room is booked for the big holiday.
"We have a lot of pickups. We have packages of whole turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes," said co-owner Geo Guillen. "A lot of people just order in advance and come and pick them up. Individual dinners too."
Guillen says the restaurant has been in his family for 42 years.
"Some employees have been here longer than me, so they know what they're doing. They're hardworking people, and they care for the customers," Guillen said.
November is typically their busiest month of the whole year, and with Thanksgiving, they make sure to plan ahead.
"We have a big walk-in freezer; we order a couple weeks in advance to order the turkey, the stuffing, the pies," Guillen explained. "We sell a lot of homemade pies. Today we already sold 300 or so, and tomorrow it's probably going to be more than that."
In true Thanksgiving fashion, Guillen says he wishes they could do more.
"I feel bad sometimes we can't give everybody the service. People are still calling to make reservations, and we have been full for a week already," Guillen said. "I wish we could do more. If we had more room and more people to work, but we just can't."
