Semice Bell

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A man is facing a charge of second-degree murder after another man who had been shot showed up at a Phoenix hospital and died.

It happened Monday afternoon. Phoenix Police Sgt. Ann Justus said officers were called to the area of 19th and Dunlap avenues for a reported shooting. While there was no victim at the scene when they arrived, Justus said officers found evidence of gunfire. At the same time, officers learned that a wounded man had turned up at a nearby hospital. The man, later identified as 29-year-old Devall Matthews, died.

Officers also discovered that two people who left the shooting scene before they got were in the area of Elliot and Priest Drive in Tempe. Police detained both as they tried to determine how they might be connected to the shooting and Matthews's death.

Justus said officers eventually arrested one of them -- Semice Bell -- on suspicion of second-degrees murder. According to court records, Bell had a handgun that matched casings found at the Phoenix shooting scene.

It's not clear how or if Bell and Matthews knew each other, nor have police said what led to the shooting.
