PHOENIX -- Two men have been charged in the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old woman in Phoenix nearly a year ago.

Based on information obtained by Phoenix police homicide detectives, the case has been charged as a hate crime.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos, Kelley Ann Jaeger, a white woman, was walking with a black male friend near Fourth Street and Dunlap Avenue on Oct. 3. Two white males drove by the victims and fired shots from their vehicle, killing Jaeger.

Martos said homicide detectives have made two arrests related to the shooting. Travis Ricci, 28, was arrested and booked on July 19. Aaron Schmidt, 28, was located in Tennessee on Sept. 1. He was extradited to Arizona and was booked on Sept. 7.

Both suspects have been charged with first-degree murder and attempted homicide.
