A man died after being hit by a car as he fled from Glendale police.

GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS5) - A man suspected of stealing a bicycle has died after he was hit by a car when he tried to run from officers Monday night. Glendale police say they were called after 8 p.m. about a stolen bicycle near Grand Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Glendale police responded to a call regarding a person who stole a bicycle on Sept. 20. As the officer arrived on the scene, the man, later identified as Villa Salgado, was in the middle of the roadway. After seeing the officer, Salgado dropped the bike and ran into the northwest lanes on Grand Avenue. Salgado ran into the side of a box truck and then fell backwards. As he fell, another car in the next lane hit Salgado while he was on the ground.

Salgado was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The drivers left the scene without stopping. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, 480-TESTIGO or the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000.
