Andrew Dinger

Andrew Dinger was booked into jail for one count theft.

MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A man stole $3,000 worth of items from a Mesa restaurant earlier this month because he felt those things should belong to him, police said. The investigation into 42-year-old Andrew Dinger started when a man from Rancho de Tia Rosa said the restaurant's planter pots were stacked on top of the patio wall. He later saw Dinger in a Ford Explorer parked by the wall with the planter pots inside his SUV. When the man went up to him, Dinger said his SUV wouldn't start, got out and walked away. He then left in a different car.

Officers arrived at the restaurant and took down the information. They then searched Dinger's apartment, where they said they found more stolen items from Rancho de Tia Rosa, including more planter pots, chairs, metal chili vine decorations, metal stars, a sun face decoration and an apple-shaped bird feeder. Dinger wasn't at home. He was found eight days later and arrested. Police said Dinger told them he took the items because "he felt entitled to them." He said he goes to Rancho de Tia Rosa at least four times a week and they have so many things on their patio, he didn't think they'd notice the missing items, according to police. Dinger was booked into jail on one count of theft.
