PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) − A large fire displaced two people from a Phoenix apartment complex overnight.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, crews were sent to the fire near 35th Avenue and Bell Road just before 11:30 p.m.
Firefighters discovered a large fire coming from the second-story apartment when they arrived. They say it was spreading into the adjacent apartment.
After firefighters made their way onto the second floor, they balanced the fire to a first-alarm and eventually extinguished the rapidly-moving fire with several hoses. Fire officials say they were able to contain the fire to the original and adjacent apartments.
The resident in the adjacent apartment was alerted to the fire thanks to smoke detectors. They were able to escape the fire safely and treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation.
The resident of the original apartment and the other resident will be displaced because of the fire. They are being assisted by a crisis response team.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
