3 On Your Side started airing reports about a particular fake contractor last summer.
And since then, a lot has happened, including a grand jury indictment that was just handed down.
"It was 3 On Your Side that really took it to the next level," said Kira Girard.
Girard says the wheels of justice are finally turning following the grand jury indictment of an accused fake contractor by the name of Tom Greenwald.
“I would love nothing more than to see him go to jail,” Girard said.
In previous 3 On Your Side reports, Girard explained how she paid Greenwald around $175,000 for a major home remodeling job.
But the project fell apart after Girard and her fiancé made some startling discoveries. There was exposed wiring found behind walls and she says workmanship, in general, was just sub-par.
"This bathroom was all done and complete and we had to completely tear it down," Girard said.
The couple contacted 3 On Your Side and our investigation revealed some startling discoveries. For example, that accreditation from the Better Business Bureau Greenwald bragged about was totally made up.
And, those top awards from a home service website not true at all. But, most troubling was that Greenwald wasn't a licensed contractor like he claimed to be.
He was reportedly using the license numbers from other legitimate companies without their knowledge to garner business.
3 On Your Side confronted Greenwald about that last year when he came to our studio to talk.
“Are you licensed and bonded? And, you say yes. And you give the license number right there," said 3 On Your Side's Gary Harper. “You cannot do that.”
"Well, I see how that looks," said Greenwald.
"I'm so glad that he did come into the studio and you can see and recognize his face," Girard said.
Phoenix Police launched their own investigation into Greenwald and a full year later, a grand jury indicted him.
Court documents say Greenwald is now charged with fraudulent schemes along with taking the identity of another for allegedly using license numbers that did not belong to him.
"I'm so glad that's come to the point where he is charged and I just hope, I pray that our justice system through for us," Girard added.
Following the indictment, Greenwald refused to speak to 3 On Your Side on-camera, but on the phone, he told us "...the (news) report was unfair..." and "one-sided."
As for Girard, she tells 3 On Your Side it's been a long journey and glad something is being done.
"And thanks to 3 On Your Side and the awareness that this has brought to the case, he's being charged," Girard said.
The indictment from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office can be read below.
