3 On Your Side's Susan Campbell caught up with Toy Insider's Madeleine Buckey to run down the hottest toys trended for the 2021 holiday season…
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Every year, the Toy Insider publishes its Holiday Gift Guide. This week, with the help of Madeleine Buckley, the senior editor of the Toy Insider, 3 On Your Side is breaking down five of hottest toy trends of 2021.
Tech that teaches
“You see the technology all over the place," Buckley said. "This is what kids gravitate to naturally – but there’s a fine line between I want my kid to have fun and have all of this technology, but I also want them to not be buried in a screen all day long." Toys that teach deal with those dueling desires.
"In my feelings"
One of this year’s toy trends is a focus on social and emotional well-being. “It’s not a stretch at all to say that kids have gone through a lot in the past two years,” Buckley said. “We think it’s very important -- and toy companies agree – to spend some time thinking about their feelings.” The toys on this list run less than $25.
Fun at home
You don't have to break the bank buying toys for your little ones. One of the themes in this year's toy trends is fun at home. "These are all going to be activities, crafts, building sets, more in depth toys that will really get kids occupied, playing, and enjoying time," explained Buckley. Best of all, the toys in this category are $30 or less.
- Blue’s Clues & You Wooden Stamp Set
- Mane Beauty Stardust Styling Head
- Crayola Light_Up Activity Board
From social media to store shelves, toys are going viral. "We’re just seeing so many toys that are in many ways inspired by kids time online," Buckley said. "Whether that is toys that feature popular YouTubers, toys themselves that have gone viral on social media because people are unboxing them on TikTok, whether it comes from a popular video game -- all of those things fall into this big category that is focused on how the internet is impacting toys."
- 4x4 Forza Buggy
- Cats vs. Pickles plushies
- Pokemon Celebrations
- Ryans's World Lost City Adventures Mega Chest
Family game night
“There are always fun, new games coming out,” Buckley said. “We look for things like how interactive they are, and how much fun every different age group can have playing them.”
