3 ON YOUR SIDE (3TV/CBS 5) - April is over, and we're headed into the month of May. Of course, that can only mean one thing. It's time to take a look back to see just how much 3 On Your Side was able to recover for our viewers this month.
3 On Your Side was happy to help out a Peoria viewer named Troy Alsobrook. "You guys helped out a lot and it pushed him to find the money," said Alsobrook. He's talking about a fake contractor named Alex Montoya who took two payments totaling $5,600 in order to do a backyard makeover for Alsobrook.
But after buying a few supplies and doing very little work, Montoya kept the money and disappeared. 3 On Your Side tracked down Montoya to a home and we left a business card. Montoya called back and after saying he was sorry and embarrassed, he agreed to return $3,000 back to Alsobrook. And there's the cashier's check. Alsobrook says it only happened because of 3 On Your Side and hired a reputable contractor to finish his yard. "You guys are good. I mean you do all your research and get all your information and I appreciate it. Definitely!" said Alsobrook.
3 On Your Side also helped Carol Jeffcott who lives in San Tan Valley. "I just can't thank you all enough for everything that's been done on your side. Heavens. It's been wonderful," she said. Jeffcott was ripped off big time when a fake plumber was hired to replace a leaky spigot on the side of her home. But instead of charging Jeffcott $65, which was the agreed price, he charged her two transactions totaling $11,500. Jeffcott disputed the charge credit card Citibank, but after five long months, they never removed the fraudulent charge.
"It's very upsetting," said Jeffcott. 3 On Your Side got involved and we asked Citibank to look into Jeffcott's dispute. Once they did, they immediately removed the $11,500 charge and said she won't have to pay it. "What do you think about 3 On Your Side?" Gary Harper asked. "Heavens, it's been wonderful. They really have and if it wasn't for you, I don't believe I would have received the credit back," said Jeffcott.
And finally, 3 On Your Side helped a Chandler couple named Rick and Teri Carrillo. They had $923 worth of credit to apply for a vacation using Travelocity. "We got our first vaccine and we're ready to take our trip finally," said Teri. However, Teri says every time she tried to book a vacation, the popular travel website rejected her credit. Teri tried to apply the credit for more than a month, but says it was like the website was holding her money hostage.
The travel website never explained to 3 On Your Side why so many consumers are having problems.
So, 3 On Your Side got involved and I got a hold of Travelocity. They looked into the issue and immediately applied the couple's $923 credit toward a vacation to Mexico. "So, we never would have gotten through without 3 On Your Side and this has been the best experience. I'm so grateful that I called you," said Teri. 3 On Your Side's total for April came to $17,123, and for the year, $35,208.
