PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – Police say a man shot and killed a teenage girl as she sat in a car with her mom in west Phoenix early Friday morning. It happened at about 1 a.m. in the area of 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road.
According to police, a woman was driving with her two children with she saw a man, later identified as 23-year-old Francisco Sanchez, in the road. When she stopped near him, Sanchez walked up to the passenger's side and shot 17-year-old Eunice Rodriguez, killing her, police said. Rodriguez's brother, who has autism, was also in the car.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Williams said Sanchez ran away and threatened another woman before he was caught. He was booked on murder and kidnapping charges, among other felonies.
Officers found the man and took him into custody. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.
