PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — If you didn’t get around to Black Friday shopping, Saturday is the perfect opportunity to get gits and keep it local. It’s Small Business Saturday, and for many business owners, they’re counting on community support to help keep their businesses afloat.

After a busy Black Friday, the co-owner of Ivy & Sage, Kim Davis, is gearing up for Small Business Saturday. “It means so much to us. It’s just that special day. We do what we do every day, but it’s always more special on that particular day,” Davis said. “Although we were very busy today, we expect that we will be even busier with our customers supporting us just for Small Business Saturday.”

Ivy & Sage is located in the Gilbert Gateway Towne Center. Sixty-two businesses fill the inside. “Everyone has their own little niche, and they are amazing,” Davis said.

The store was packed with customers on Black Friday. It’s a different sight for many business owners compared to this time last year during the pandemic. “So many businesses had to close or lost employees,” Davis said.

Now thousands of businesses are hoping for local support. “We’re hoping we get a lot of people in here,” the owner of Cave & Post Trading Co. Patrick Burch said. “We have a lot of thrifted vintage boots, colognes, soap, and candles are great gifts for men and women.”

Going to the store may be your smartest bet to navigate the supply chain crisis this holiday

Burch said he will have specials throughout his store Saturday. The store is located in Phoenix off of Indian School Road and 11th Street. “We are doing a sale all weekend long both online and in the store 20% off,” Burch said. “We’re giving free stuff away all day if you come in to shop.”

Burch said the meaning behind Small Business Saturday is more than purchases. It’s about bringing the community together once again. “It’s not just about making the most sales but it’s about seeing people back out and having some sense of normalcy again,” Burch said.

On Saturday, there will be a Small Business Saturday event in Tempe. Nearly 100 businesses will gather at the Merchantile Market at Tempe’s Big Surf Waterpark from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. You can find Ivy & Sage and Cave & Post on Instagram.
