CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office joined the family of fallen officer Joshua Kinnard to escort their daughter, Julianna, to her first day of Kindergarten on Wednesday. She was just two years old when her father died.
Good Morning Arizona joined her family at Conley Elementary School in Chandler to witness her collecting flowers from several MCSO officers. Two officers, Robert Dimon and Andi Harrison, escorted Julianna into her classroom in honor of her fallen father. MCSO says both officers are close family friends and worked closely with Kinnard.
Kinnard, an MCSO detention officer and Iraq War vet, was killed in 2018 in a shooting involving Gilbert police. At the time of the shooting, police say he was aggravated and came outside toward officers with a weapon. His fiancé told Arizona's Family that he was being treated at the VA for PTSD and a traumatic brain injury. Ultimately, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office didn't pursue criminal charges against the officers.
