Nathan Jellicoe

Nathan Jellicoe was booked into jail on 10 counts of sexual conduct and two counts of luring a minor for exploitation.

EL MIRAGE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — An assistant football coach for a high school in El Mirage is in trouble with the law over accusations that he committed sex acts with a student on campus. Police said 24-year-old Nathan Jellicoe was arrested on Tuesday on the Dysart High School campus. Police said school officials called them after they learned of "inappropriate conduct" between Jellicoe and a 16-year-old student.

His role as a security guard got him in close contact with the victim, detectives said. Investigators said the sexual acts happened on campus between Oct. 7 and Tuesday, but they don't know exactly where. "It's troubling," said El Mirage Police Lt. Tim Mason.

Jellicoe reportedly admitted to taking the student out of class to have sex with her during school hours, according to court documents obtained by Arizona's Family.

Court paperwork revealed that staff provided investigators with screenshots of text messages between the student and Jellicoe. Screenshots from the conversations suggested sexual contact, and that Jellicoe would reassure the teen girl after she told him that she was nervous about meeting up to have sex. One witness said that Jellicoe was contacting the victim through social media.

Initially, Jellicoe denied having any form of sexual contact with the victim. But after investigators told him of text message evidence they had against him, he admitted to having sex five times over the past week at the high school, including in the auditorium. The victim told police that they had sex during school hours on "at least two occasions."

He also told authorities that he was using social media to contact the victim and used his role as a security guard to remove the girl from her classroom while acting in his official capacity. Documents say Jellicoe and the teenager would communicate to set up a time and place to meet. Jellicoe admitted to not wearing a condom either.

The school resource officer told staff that "without students coming forward with this, the victimization could have continued."

"So to those students that brought this information forward, I commend them," said Mason.

Jellicoe was booked into jail on 10 counts of sexual conduct and two counts of luring a minor for exploitation. He's also an assistant football coach at Dysart High School. Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the case is asked to call the El Mirage Police Department at 623-500-3000.

Editor's Note: Court documents state the alleged sexual contact started on Oct. 7. The date has been corrected.
