COTTONWOOD, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- A Cottonwood man has been arrested for allegedly exposing himself to young kids getting off a school bus.
On Jan. 10, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a mom called the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) to report that her 10-year-old daughter was getting off the school bus when she saw a man allegedly exposing himself and touching himself in a nearby front yard.
As deputies were responding to the call, they received another notification from the mother of an 11-year-old girl who was on the same bus, and saw the same man allegedly exposing himself and touching himself.
During an interview with the 11-year-old victim, deputies learned she saw this same man allegedly doing the same thing when she got off the bus two weeks before, but she didn't tell anyone at the time.
YCSO had also a received a previous report from the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District on December 20, 2019, regarding similar activity, which had been under investigation.
Deputies were able to identify the suspect as 29-year-old Cody John Shanks, and took him into custody. YCSO says he was arrested and "admitted to his actions in front of the children" but he "refused to explain the motivation."
Shanks was booked on two felony counts of indecent exposure to a child under 15 years of age. He has since been released on a $25,000 bond.
