PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Uber and Walgreens have partnered to launch a new feature through the Uber app to help people get their COVID-19 vaccine. The feature will allow people to book vaccination appointments at Walgreens locations while scheduling their Uber ride to that appointment, all through Uber's app.
The two groups' focus is to ensure that transportation isn't a barrier for people who want to get a COVID-19 vaccine. The companies worked together for months to create the new feature to debut as all adults in the United States became available to receive a shot after President Biden moved the eligibility deadline to April 19.
Beginning Thursday, Uber users will see a new "vaccine" option in their app that will allow them to schedule an appointment at a Walgreens location. After putting in a zip code and selecting an appointment time, users will be able to reserve a ride to the appointment by scheduling a pickup time and location. Push notifications will be sent to remind users of their upcoming ride to their appointment.
“We’re committed to helping ensure that transportation is not a barrier to getting vaccinated. We know that by making it easier to get to an appointment, more people will get vaccinated,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “By partnering with Walgreens, our goal is to make getting that shot as easy as booking a ride with Uber.”
Anyone with the Uber app will be able to access this new vaccine feature. Appointments are subject to availability. For more information about receiving a vaccine call your local pharmacist or click here for more details.
