HonorHealth employees will have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination by Nov. 1, 2021.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - Another major medical group in Arizona will be requiring employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. On Friday, HonorHealth announced that they will require employees to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination by Monday, November 1, as a condition of employment. Earlier this week, Banner Health made a similar announcement.

HonorHealth officials say this policy is consistent with their mission to provide the utmost safety for our patients, team members and the community, and “to improve the health and well-being of those we serve.”

This decision comes as COVID-19 continues to spread, impacted by the rise of several variants that are increasing the severity and transmissibility of this infection. “At HonorHealth, patient and team member safety continue to be our top priority,” said Todd LaPorte, CEO at HonorHealth. “Based on the increased spread of COVID-19 and its variants within our community, requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all team members is a critical next step.”

Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with all federal and state laws. More details about this process will be shared with team members at a later time. Arizona's Family reached out to several hospital networks to see if any others would be adopting mandatory vaccination policies.

In a statement from an Abrazo Health spokesperson, the health care group said it supports vaccinations for the community and its employees; however, it does not require employees to get vaccinated while the vaccines are still under an emergency use authorization. "We are closely monitoring trends and are making adjustments daily to ensure our staff, physicians, and patients are protected," the spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for Valleywise Health said employees are required to get the flu shot, and officials are "evaluating" whether to adopt a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination.
