FDA Building

Nefarious individuals hacking into your pacemaker? It's not just the plot of some sci-fi movie. It's a real-life threat, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS5) --  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working on monitoring the drug market for any companies marketing products that claim to diagnose, prevent and treat coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to a press release, the FDA is concerned that people who are seeking out these products will actually cause them to delay any necessary medical treatment.

"We want to alert the American public that, at this time, the FDA has not authorized any test that is available to purchase for testing yourself at home for COVID-19. The FDA sees the public health value in expanding the availability of COVID-19 testing through safe and accurate tests that may include home collection, and we are actively working with test developers in this space."

If you want to get tested for COVID-19, reach out to your medical provider and work with them to obtain an FDA-regulated test.
