PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- The desert doesn't get much rain. But when it does, it gets a lot. It also gets its fair share of crashes and flooded roads, which create major problems.
Stanley Roberts hit the road with Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper Clinton Schmidt. They were looking to respond to weather-related crashes. DPS says that 90%of all crashes are avoidable. The crashes are usually from distractions like eating and playing with your phone. These are things that keep your eyes from looking at the road.
DPS also responded to a report of a flooded roadway, where several cars were stuck in the water. The rule of thumb when driving is if you can’t see the road, turn around and don’t drown. And even if you don’t drown, trust me, you are going to have one heck of a car repair bill.
