Three lots of ORTHO-NORTHUM birth control have been recalled because of incorrect instructions printed on the dispenser.

(Meredith) -- Three lots of ORTHO-NORTHUM birth control have been recalled because of incorrect instructions printed on the dispenser. Janssen Pharmeceuticals said the mistake could potentially lead to unintended pregnancy.

The incorrect instructions could cause a consumer to take an inactive "reminder" pill instead of an "active" pill which could lead to breakthrough bleeding or pregnancy.

The effected lots include ORTHO-NOVUM 1/35 and ORTHO-NOVUM 7/7/7. To identify an effected lot, check for a NDC number on the carton. It will either be, 50458-176-06, 50458-178-06, or 50458-178-12.

For more information about the recalled birth control products, visit the official FDA website here.
