CASA GRANDE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Gov. Doug Ducey welcomed a new business into Arizona Monday. Lucid Motors will build its plant to make electric cars in Casa Grande. The plant is expected to bring 2,000 jobs to the area.

The deal has been in the making for years. "This started I believe in my first year 2015, 2016, where Lucid looked at 60 markets in 13 states but chose Arizona for our great business market," said Ducey.

In September last year, Lucid Motors announced The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia sunk more than $1 billion into the company, finally making this deal possible. "I really was proud of winning the decision that they were coming here," said Ducey. "So much of it was up to Lucid to raise the capital to actually close the deal and be able to begin construction."

"We’re a luxury brand to compete with luxury cars," said Peter Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid Motors. He said the retail for the cars is initially more than $100 thousand, but he hopes to bring more affordable versions that are below that price range. Rawlinson said he wants to change the world and help the environment.

Rawlinson said he wants to change the world and help the environment.
