APACHE JUNCTION (3TV/CBS 5) - Cactus Canyon Junior High School students will get the chance to bring a local author's book to the stage this Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m.

Gold Canyon resident Jane Gerencher attended a play at the high school last year and offered to let Cactus Canyon advanced drama class students adapt her children's story 'Santa's Sugar' into a play.

Actors will showcase the piece at the Apache Junction Performing Arts Center at 2525 S. Ironwood Drive in Apache Junction.

Tickets are $5 dollars for adults and $3 for students. Children five and under are free.

The festive story is about an elf named Nugget who can’t find her place in Santa’s workshop. Santa selects Nugget to care for his beloved cat ‘Sugar.’ Nugget attempts to take on the responsibility but things do not go as planned. According to Gerencher, the play offers universal lessons for an audience of all ages.

Immediately after the play, introductory drama students will perform holiday skits and songs.

The sets, costumes, programs and promotional flyers were created by drama students.

For more information, call the high school at 480-474-3980.
