BUMBLE BEE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Nearly 18 years after a double murder near Bumble Bee, Yavapai County investigators are offering up a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
On Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, Brandon Rumbaugh and his girlfriend, Lisa Gurrieri, left Scottsdale for an overnight camping trip north of Phoenix. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says the couple borrowed a white 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck and were expected to return home the following day. They never made it back.
Family and friends became concerned and began to search for them. YCSO says the couple's bodies were discovered in the bed of the borrowed truck. Rumbaugh and Gurrieri had been shot to death. The truck was found in a dirt parking area off Bumble Bee Road, a short distance from Interstate 17.
Investigators noted that a borrowed video camera was missing from the scene, although its case was left behind. Also, deputies found a broken disposable camera about 100 feet away from the truck. Some photos were intact. One of the photos showed the couple in the back of the truck. Authorities believe it is the last photo of them alive. YCSO said there was also a photograph of a light fixture on the inside of a building. Detectives are still trying to determine where it was taken.
