Tempe apartment near drowning

A child was pulled from a Tempe apartment complex pool Saturday evening and rushed to a hospital.

TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- A 1-year-old girl has died after being pulled from an apartment complex pool in Tempe Saturday.

Tempe Fire Department spokeswoman, Andrea Glass, says crews were called to an apartment complex near Rural Road and Baseline Road shortly after 5 p.m. and when crews arrived, they found the child was already out of the water. A bystander and a Tempe police officer were performing CPR on the child. Firefighters took the baby to a local hospital.

On Monday, Glass confirmed that the girl passed away. "We are deeply saddened by this news and will be working to send out safety messaging to reinforce always watching kids around water."

It's unclear how the child got into the pool but it happened during a family gathering. The incident is under investigation.
