PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- We Paid It Forward to a neighbor who did everything he could to beautify his neighborhood. Along 64th street in the community of North Ranch sat a neglected and ugly wall.

"Across the street, the wall looked terrible - It looked bad for quite some time, and it had overgrowth, graffiti, different colors - some grey - some brown. It really looked bad," Mickey Turner said.

Well, that's when Jack Sander decided that he would be the glue to a year-long project that he would enhance the look of his neighborhood. For that, his neighbors were truly thankful.

Mickey grabbed the $500 gift card and said, "I brought some friends, the whole neighborhood wanted to thank you, and I can't believe you did all this work. You didn't cry or whine or ask for help on anything. We appreciate all you do and were so inspired by you that we decided to call Channel 5 and their Pay It Forward program. Because you still need $2,000, we thought we could help with a $500 gift card."

Jack walked by that wall almost every day with his dog, stepping over weeds and debris for years. He said he finally had enough and took it upon himself to clean it up.

"We got the street cleaned up, and once the street was cleaned up, the next step was the ugly wall. Now we are working on the alcoves; there's dirt and sawed-off tree stumps. We will keep going until we're done," Jack said.

"It really inspires you to know that there are people out there that really care that much about your neighborhood," Mickey said.
