Paul Horton and the Pay It Forward crew visit the Sunrise Mountain Library in Peoria to give some recognition to someone who plays a big part in the community.

PEORIA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Arizona's Family visited Sunrise Mountain Library in Peoria and Paid It Forward to Colleen McElroy, who is dedicated to her community. It was the day before Earth Day, and we caught McElroy representing the Peoria Library with a class for families about ladybugs.

"What I'm going to do is magically bring out the ladybugs. Right now, there is a shortage of ladybugs, so we are very lucky to get the bugs this time of year," McElroy said.

Almost everyone knows McElroy in the City of Peoria. She's involved in a ton of community projects that make Peoria a great place.

"Having a Colleen, she's the type of glue, energy, and enthusiasm and commitment to her community. It's what makes Peoria so special is the people like her that live here," John Sefton, Director of Parks and Recreation, said.

Gwen McMichael, who nominated McElroy, said, "I nominated Colleen because she is such a giving person and so important to our city." So, Gwen and her friends organized a greeting for her right in front of the library that means so much to her.

There was a lot of cheering, and Gwen said, "Colleen, on behalf of all the community and the volunteers here and Arizona's Family. We wanted to Pay It Forward to you with a $500 gift card because of all the things that you do."

"I just am so thankful for that in Peoria we volunteer with the friends of the library and the Lions. And even though you were afraid to turn on the TV for the last year. Being part of a team with great people has made us move forward and make a difference. I knew you were betting on me crying - I truly love working with you," McElroy said.

Paul Horton keeps you up-to-date on the Valley's forecast weekdays on CBS 5 News at 5, 6:30 and 10 p.m.  Helping the community is also important to Paul as he as spearheads the yearly Pay it Forward Car Wash that benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona.
