WEST VALLEY, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - You could say, Trisha Marshall likes to crochet, making one blanket after another.

"Sometimes, I sit there for three hours. Sometimes I sit for four hours," said Marshall. "Sometimes, 30 minutes. It depends."

The West Valley grandmother could open her own shop, but Marshall has no intention of making any money from her favorite hobby. She makes blankets for the homeless, newborn babies and moms in need.

"The best part is when I give the blankets to a person, and they look at me like - you are a stranger, what do you want?" said Marshall. "I don't want anything, but at least I can go home and say I made one person warm."

It takes Marshall anywhere from two to four weeks to make a blanket, depending on its size. Once she gets enough of them, she'll donate them to her church, a local charity or hand them out to someone she sees on the street.

Van Carranza has seen what a difference Marshall has made in the community, so he reached out to CBS 5 to Pay It Forward to the talented grandmother, making a difference, one stitch at a time.

"If you can help people, especially those less fortunate than you, that's a God-given gift right there," said Carranza.

A CBS 5 news crew followed Carranza over to Marshall's house so he could give her $500.

"I nominated you for what you've been doing for the community, especially the homeless, and also unwed mothers, how you crochet and spend your own money and time to do all this," said Carranza. "On behalf of the program Pay It Forward on Channel 5, here's a gift for you. $500."

"I've never been wealthy, I never plan on being wealthy, but whatever I have and I can help somebody, that's what I want to do," said Marshall. "That's just me."

"I think if there were more people like Trisha, our community would be a lot better off," said Carranza.
