CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - We had a chance to Pay It Forward at BKD's Backyard Joint in Chandler, to a local chef who made sure everyone was fed during the pandemic. "He loves people. All he really wants to do is help people with heart and a belly full of love. He spends his time making great food and helping people when he can," said co-owner Kelly Cooper.
We got an email about Chef Mark Coakley telling us about the free meals he would prepare for musicians in need and for many local doctors and nurses that worked around the clock. Because of Chef Mark's hard work, the staff at his restaurant wanted to Pay It Forward to him.
"Some people of reached out and about all the things you did during COVID. All the work and support for local charities you have done so we wanted to Pay It Forward to you," said Cooper.
"Wow" said Coakley. "During COVID we got to help out a lot of people and it was awesome."
Meal after meal, Coakley and his team would show up to make sure everyone was fed. "It's the least a chef can do is make food and they eat good," said Chef Coakley.
Not only that, after Coakley received the $500 award, he paid it forward to an organization called Save The Families that helped his family when he was younger. "It feels amazing because everything that I went through as a child and as a teenage years, Save the Family helped me get thru the tough times," said Coakley.
