Cristiana Ramos

Born in Southern California and raised in Phoenix. I am a proud Mexican and Salvadorian. I take a lot of pride in my heritage because everyone who came before me paved the way for me to be where I am.

I come from a long line of Chingonas! My grandmother from my father’s side migrated to the U.S from El Salvador to provide better for her kids. She did THAT on her own opening up her own business and being a single mother. My grandmother on my mom’s side was a civil rights activist. She was a bodyguard for Cesar Chavez and a journalist during the Farm Worker’s Movement in the 60s. My mom raised me, my two brothers and my sister by herself. It’s her sacrifices, resiliency, and unconditional love that I was able to chase my dreams and live them out. We didn’t have a lot growing up but we had what we needed. She and I would watch AZ Family every morning for as long as I could remember even if it was just playing for background noise while getting ready. She would always say “babygirl, that’s going to be you one day.” When I got the job she said “I told you so.”

I graduated from Moon Valley High School. Attended Northern Arizona University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences with a major in Broadcast Journalism and a double minor in Civic Engagement and Creative Media and Film. I graduated Summa Cum Laude as a first-generation college student.

I worked for NAU-TV as a sports sideline reporter for NAU football and basketball. I was an anchor, reporter, and student forecaster at NAZ Today, a student-run station in Flagstaff. I won a Broadcast Education Association Award for Best Newscast I reported and anchored the show.

Broadcast Journalism is something I have known I wanted to pursue since I was in elementary school. I loved to write, I loved making films, and I loved telling stories. I joined the school announcements in elementary school and that’s where it all started.

I am passionate about helping others which has inspired me to shine a light on problems within my community while finding solutions. I am a huge advocate for underrepresented communities by giving them a platform to be seen and heard. I just want to make a positive impact and authentic meaningful connections with my community.

I started my career right out of college in the midst of the pandemic in Beaumont, TX. I was a Multi-Skilled Journalist and Weather Forecaster. I have covered a lot of historical weather events like Hurricane Laura, Delta, Ida, Tropical Storm Nicholas, and The Great Texas Freeze. I got to provide live coverage in Uvalde after the tragic shooting. I have won Best On-Air Talent for the 2022 Press Club of Southeast Texas Awards.

In my spare time, I love to be outdoors, trying new places to eat, and hanging out with my fur babies and family. I have three dogs and one cat and dream about adding a big ole pot belly pig to my family. I am a very active person fitness is a major part of my life. I used to be a certified personal trainer and wellness coach, former dancer, cheerleader and cross country runner.
