A driver found himself in trouble with the law for allegedly putting a mannequin in the passenger seat and driving in the carpool lane.

The incident happened on Sept. 7 on the L-202 Red Mountain at Van Buren.

A trooper pulled the driver over for an HOV Lane violation.

When the trooper confirmed the driver was the only "real" person in the car, the driver was given a citation.

DPS says troopers issue more than 4,000 HOV lane citations each year.

An HOV lane (high-occupancy vehicle lane) is a restricted traffic lane reserved at peak travel times or longer for the exclusive use of vehicles with a driver and one or more passengers
