CASA GRANDE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- The Casa Grande Department says one of its officers Jesus “Chuy” Lara, has died of COVID-19.

“We ask that you join us as we keep Chuy, his family, and friends in our thoughts and prayers,” CGPD said in a news release. Lara is a six-year veteran of CGPD and spent two years with the Gila River Police Department.

“Officer Lara was well known throughout the Casa Grande and Pinal County community. He was an active participant in area sports leagues, but his true passion was coaching area youth teams,” CGPD said. “In doing this, he provided a positive influence and mentored countless Pinal County youth. The same passion motivated him as a police officer.”

Lara is leaves behind a wife and three kids. CGPD said funeral arrangements are being worked out.
