TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Tech giant Amazon has announced that more jobs are coming to the Valley. In a news release, the City of Tempe announced that Amazon has signed on to an expansion of its office off Mill Avenues with plans to create 550 new jobs.
The new jobs will support growing teams in the company’s consumer retails and operations space, in addition to its ever-growing Amazon Web Services department. City officials say some positions expected to become available include business analysts, project managers, software development engineers, and senior solution architects.
“Not only do Phoenix and Tempe have an incredible existing talent pipeline, but this is a place where people want to move to as well,” said Doug Welzel, a site lead for Amazon’s Phoenix Tech Hub. “We’ve experienced amazing growth over the last few years, creating jobs and economic opportunity for the wider community. We’ve already created more than 5,000 corporate and tech jobs in the Phoenix area and we are excited to continue investing here.”
In a statement, Mayor of Tempe Corey Woods says announcements like these help continue to attract more high-wage jobs to the city and the Valley. “These types of investments not only create good jobs, but they help to power the economic engine of our community and provide more opportunities for our residents and citizens,” said Woods.
Officials expect the new office space to open in late 2022.
