PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks General Manager Mike Hazen and his wife Nicole had a special gift to give staff at the Ivy Brain Tumor Center in Phoenix this past week.

The Hazen’s presented a $1.5 million check to doctors, physicians and researchers at the Ivy Brain Tumor Center at the Barrow Neurological Institute on Dec. 14. The center is also where Nicole is receiving treatment and care after she was diagnosed in July 2020 with glioblastoma, a rare form of cancer.

Nicole has been receiving treatment with Dr. Nader Sanai and Dr. Ekokobe Fonkem, working to treat the deadly illness.

“We’re so grateful to Nicole and Mike Hazen for their continued support of the Ivy Brain Tumor Center. The generous donation from the Nicole Hazen Fund For Hope demonstrates their commitment to supporting the discovery of new treatment options for brain cancer patients. We will never lose sight that the work we do at the Ivy Center is so people like Nicole have more time with their loved ones, and it’s going to take all of us to get us there,” said Dr. Sanai.

The Hazen’s also created the Nicole Hazen Fund for Hope this past year, which is a fund that supports the brain tumor center in research, clinical trials and treatment. Hazen previously took a leave of absence from the Diamondbacks in June to be with Nicole and the couple’s four boys. Shortly after the fund was established, several Diamondbacks executives, MLB league officials and 29 other ball clubs rallied together to support Nicole.
