GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Smoked Texas-style barbecue combined with Mexican cuisine just found itself a new home in downtown Gilbert. For East Valley residents familiar with Caldwell County BBQ, the owners just converted their downtown Gilbert hot dog location into a newer concept in the barbecue scene. For BBQ newcomers, Caldwell County BBQ, located just north of the Loop 202 Santan off Power Road, focuses on Texas-style barbecue.
Formerly Clay Dawgs, located on Gilbert Road just north of Juniper Avenue, Caldwell County BBQ owners Clay and Susan Caldwell converted the spot into Caldwell County Mexi-Q! Susan says they got the idea after a recent trip to Texas where they discovered the emerging trend of barbecue joints combining Mexican cuisine: Mexi-Que.

Wednesday, Nov. 17, was their grand opening! The Mexican-style BBQ joint will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The menu will feature items like a Brisket Birria Taco, Brisket Tostada, Smoked Chili Verde Burrito, Mexi-Q Twinkie (that sounds interesting!), Smoked Carnitas Taco, and the usual Caldwell County BBQ meats. Some familiar Caldwell County BBQ sides are on the menu as well, including Julio’s Mac & Cheese and Lala’s Pinto Beans, but some newcomers like Roasted Creamed Elote and Grandma’s Calabacitas.
