SEDONA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - History is life for Sedona Red Rock High School teacher Dr. Edwin Moody. “Everything is history, first off. And everything is fair game,” he says. That’s the way he conducts his class, one of the many reasons his students love him.

“Dr. Moody is an outstanding teacher. He is humorous and so creative with the jokes he makes. I look forward to his class every morning,” student Emily Frey said. “He explains everything in-depth, and I learn more in his class than any other. He is always organized and ready for class, which is amazing considering he is going back to college for another degree to make sure he can be the best teacher possible. As said by Dr. Moody himself, ‘I have more degrees than a thermometer.’” Frey wrote that essay to get Moody nominated for the 3TV Silver Apple Award, which he won.

“I’m Javier Soto from Arizona’s Family. We are interrupting your classroom so we can award you the Silver Apple Award for excellence in education.”

“I feel grateful to be doing what I’m doing and having been able to do it for three decades,” Moody said.

The Silver Apple Trophy also includes award money from Arizona Bank & Trust -- $1,000. “I think it’s a wonderful contribution to your hard work that your students recognize you for all your hard work,” said Nicci from Arizona Bank & Trust.

Moody’s hard work not only helps his students learn about history but, more importantly, life lessons that will last a lifetime. “Again, it’s not how you fall; it’s how you get up,” Moody said. “I’m a high-school dropout that has a doctorate in education and a master’s in education. So, it’s how you persevere.”
