PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- This week, we paid it forward to Diane Simonian, who is the foundation of AZ Ferret Rescue in Phoenix.

“She got nominated because she runs the Ferret Rescue. She had to give up her vacation this year because of the ferrets to take care of. She also feeds the homeless, and she’s always helping everyone out,” her friend Jerrianne said.

Yes, even once a week, Diane fills her bus with friends to deliver to the homeless. Because of all these things, her friends Jonni and Jerrianne wanted to Pay It Forward to her.

So we walked up to her house with Jonni and Jerrianne, who greeted their friend said, “Diane, how are you? We have a special surprise; you are a spectacular person. We nominated you for a Pay It Forward award for the ferret rescue and all you do for the homeless. So here’s a $500 gift card for all you do.”

She said, “Thank you.”

Diane and her team save ferrets from owners who surrender or even abandon them, and she brings them back to health and ready for adoption.

“You know they are so easy to care for. I don’t understand how people say they can’t care for them. They require 2 hours a day out of cages to play,” Diane said.

She has a few dozen ferrets at the rescue, and this money will go a long way to help. “It’s going to buy pee pads. It’s serious; it’s never-ending.”
