SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- The City of Scottsdale is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year with public events that show off the iconic places and establishments the City has to offer.

Scottsdale was incorporated on June 25, 1951. It was a city of 2,000 people. According to a news release from the City, its official motto was “The West’s Most Western Town,” and the first mayor was Malcolm White. Today, Scottsdale has more than 258,000 residents. Mayor David D. Ortega is the City’s 12th mayor. Ortega also is a registered architect who helped design many of the landmark buildings in Old Town.

Scottsdale isn’t the only one turning 70, so is the Rusty Spur Saloon. It’s Scottsdale’s oldest bar and sits in a registered historic landmark that was once the Farmer’s Bank of Scottsdale.

Just walking through the saloon doors, and you are blasted back in time. The bank vault is still in the back, but there hasn’t been money in there for years. These days it’s filled with cool refreshing beer and liquor.
