We imagined a world in which every little girl had the dignity of owning at least one dress. Last October our Phoenix based NGO Hope 4 Kids International introduced a program called Dress a Girl Around the World. Since then we have people in 24 States and in Canada sewing dresses from pillowcases for us to distribute to little girls around the world. So far we have sent dresses to girls in Haiti, the Congo, Uganda, and Honduras. We have plans to distribute within the US, Russia, Peru, India, the Baltic, Romania, Tanzania, Rwanda, and much more.
I cannot tell you how moving it is to see the faces of these girls when they realize someone whom they have never met cared enough to make the only new dress they have ever owned. It brings such dignity in worlds where girls are regarded as having no voice or value.
Making these dresses seems to be such a simple act--but to the girls receiving them--it's priceless.
