• Sunny -- Phoenix is known as "The Valley of the Sun," with about 300 sunny days a year!
• Hot -- It does get hot! How hot is hot? The highest temperature on record is 122 degrees on June 26, 1990.
• Monsoon -- Arizona's biggest weather event is the summer monsoon. The term "monsoon" comes from the Arabic "Mausim" meaning "wind shift." It is caused by a seasonal change in the wind direction from a westerly to a southerly direction in July, August and September.
• High winds, dust storms, thunderstorms and humidity can occur -- A "wall of dust," which happens only in the desert Southwest, may take place and if it does, you know rain is on the way. The monsoon typically brings about 2.5 inches of rain.
• Cool -- Once you’ve weathered the monsoon, cooler temperatures are ahead in the fall and winter. By November, look for highs in the mid-70s and lows around 50 degrees. The gorgeous winter will make you forget the summer heat!
