...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM MST THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of north central Arizona and
northeast Arizona, including the following areas, Coconino
Plateau, Grand Canyon Country, Kaibab Plateau, Little Colorado
River Valley in Coconino County, Marble and Glen Canyons, Black
Mesa Area, Chinle Valley, Chuska Mountains and Defiance Plateau,
Northeast Plateaus and Mesas.

* From 11 AM MST this morning through this evening

* Abundant monsoon moisture is expected to produce thunderstorms
capable of producing heavy rainfall, mainly this afternoon and
evening. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches in a short period of
time are possible with the stronger storms.

* Areas of particular concern include the Grand Canyon, Havasu
Canyon and Supai, Antelope Canyon and other slot canyons. Low
water crossings in the watch area will also be susceptible to
flooding today.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that developing conditions may lead to
flash flooding within the Watch area. People...especially those
located along area creeks...rivers or other flash flood prone
areas...should continue to monitor later forecasts and be prepared
to take immediate action should flash flood warnings be issued.

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast
California, and Nevada, including the following areas, in
northwest Arizona, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead
National Recreation Area, Northwest Deserts, and Northwest
Plateau. In southeast California, Cadiz Basin, Eastern Mojave
Desert, Morongo Basin, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado
River Valley, and Western Mojave Desert. In Nevada, Esmeralda
and Central Nye County, Lake Mead National Recreation Area,
Las Vegas Valley, Lincoln County, Northeast Clark County,
Sheep Range, Southern Clark County, Spring Mountains-Red Rock
Canyon, and Western Clark and Southern Nye County.

* Through late tonight

* Any thunderstorm that develops today and tonight will be capable
of producing intense rainfall which could lead to flash flooding
in the watch area. Flooding of normally dry washes, low water
crossings, and poorly drained intersections are likely.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you are in the watch area...you should closely monitor weather
forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action should heavy
rain and flooding occur or a flash flood warning is issued.

    People constantly tell me it never rains in THEIR neighborhood.  Truth be told, there are some parts of the Valley more favored for storms during the monsoon season.  But even Mother Nature likes to break her own rules sometimes.
