PHOENIX -- Winter Storm Watches and Winter Weather Advisories have been posted for much of northern and eastern Arizona beginning Thursday night.

Elevations about 5000 feet could see 4 to 6 inches of snow. Higher elevations could get up to a foot of snow, especially in eastern Arizona.

In the Valley, we’re expecting rain showers to develop Thursday night into Friday. The heaviest precipitation may occur during the early morning hours. At this point, we’re expecting about a half an inch or more at most Valley locations.

This will be the first significant rain in the Valley since the first week of September. And it will be the first significant snow in northern Arizona of the season.

It’s also possible a few thunderstorms will pop up as a cold front moves through during the early morning hours on Friday.
