PHOENIX -- Monsoon season was in full effect Saturday afternoon as the Valley was soaked by summer rains.
Residents of the East Valley were particularly impacted by Saturday’s storm, as more than an inch of rain came down in Mesa in just 30 minutes. Approximately 6,000 SRP customers in the East Valley also lost service on Saturday.
The town of Quartzite lost power on Saturday as well. APS crews will be working through the night and plan to have the power in Quartzite back up and running by early Sunday morning.
Saturday’s rain also made traveling around the city difficult. Lanes on the U.S. 60 at Val Vista were closed due to flooding on the road.
The chance for rain and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast for the Valley through Saturday night.
The wet weather could continue for the rest of the weekend, as there’s a chance for rain on both Sunday and Monday.
Things should dry out by Tuesday, with temperatures creeping back over 100 as the work week progresses.
